GAME NOTES
Ottawa opened the season with a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Though it took them time to get their legs, the Senators finished the game strong and were able to hold Toronto to just five shots in the third period. The goals came from Thomas Chabot, Michael Amadio and Stephen Halliday.
Jake Sanderson re-aggravated a lower body injury in the first period after playing just four and a half minutes. He's been sent back to Ottawa for further testing, and will be unavailable for at least the remainder of this road trip, which wraps up Tuesday in Detroit.
Drawing in for Sanderson is Cameron Crotty, who will play on his off-hand side next to Nikolas Matinpalo. The Ottawa-born 27-year-old played in six games for the Senators last season, and recorded one assist.
Left-shot Jorian Donovan has also been recalled from Belleville but is not expected to play.
Ridly Greig is serving his last of the two-game suspension after roughing Sean Walker in game four of the playoffs. The Boston Bruins will be without Charlie McAvoy, who was also served a suspension in the spring that carried over into this season.
Boston's 2023 William M. Jennings Trophy winning goaltending tandem of Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman get the start, for their respective teams. Ullmark stopped 27 of 29 shots in Saturday's win over the Maple Leafs, good for a .931 save percentage. Swayman currently has a .947 through two games, including one shutout.
Former Ottawa Senators forward Mark Kastelic currently leads the Bruins with three points. But it's the top-line connection of JJ. Peterka, Elias Lindholm, and David Pastrnak that the Senators need to worry about, the trio have combined for six points through the Bruins first three games. Travis Green will likely try to get Shane Pinto's shutdown line out against them.
